I don’t think the purported difference between flying east/west versus west/east count when your time zone is changing by an exact-other-side-of-the-world 12 hours. For me, all the challenges of jet lag come in flying to winter where the days are shorter and sunlight scarce. That I have never tested this theory by flying into Europe in summer or New Zealand in winter is not going to dissuade me of my opinion, or help me get back to sleep at 4.00 am. Even my appetite is on a different timezone, with evening meals having to be forced down the gullet and sweet snacks resisted in the early morning.
Yesterday’s late afternoon nap is definitely to blame for my current wakefulness (with Matt having suffered the same the previous two nights). We are hoping for better weather and a hike up to Noriglio’s postponed carnevale celebration this Sunday afternoon, for increased sunlight exposure and to avoid the same mistake again today.
