The Italian nativity scene is a lot more involved than any other set up that I’ve ever seen, with an entire cityscape depicted in miniature. In Naples you can find whole shops dedicated to selling pieces for them, with the artisans working in the same space. I thought someone had stolen the baby Jesus from this one, set up at the pizzeria we ate at on Saturday night, but, according to a friend, he doesn’t get added until Christmas eve. Historical realism and all that. A pizza chef has been placed centre stage instead.
